Say It Right

Fifty business phrases. Listen to a native speaker, say it back, and the page scores how close your tones actually landed. Nothing is uploaded — your voice never leaves this device.

Why tones, and why a score

In English, pitch carries feeling. In Mandarin it carries meaning. The same syllable said with a different pitch shape is a different word — is mother, is horse. Get the pitch shape wrong and you have said the wrong word, no matter how good your consonants are.

So this page measures the one thing that matters most: the shape your pitch traces compared to the native recording. It draws both curves on top of each other so you can see exactly where yours went the wrong way.

The scale is honest. A 10 means indistinguishable from the recording. A first attempt at a new phrase often lands around 5. Anything at 7 or above would be understood by a native speaker without effort.

Say something out loud. The bar should jump well past the mark. If it never moves, choose a different microphone above.
